The first half of this poem is the praise of beauty, the second half illustrates its effect: the desire followed by the possession. First words, then kisses; first recognition of beauty, then the physical experience of it. I remember seeing a photograph of some 20-something Maltese girls in their bikinis a few years ago. Now the photo/memory has a poem to accompany it.
