I have observed it in myself and others that a person of high intelligence, who can see through the transience of their own endeavours - 'when you see the end of all things before they ever had the chance to begin' - might still go and decide their objectives by those same frail referents. However, as Joseph Campbell famously wrote: 'Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it. The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning.'
