Excellence - that's the word the ancient Greeks used to describe what human beings pursue - their word was ARETE. The happiness you speak of seems to come quite naturally to a mind focused on excellence, and finding roses among the daisies is your metaphor for this reward. It puts a whole new moral stamp on the famous lyric GATHER YE ROSE BUDS WHILE YE MAY. Now it's a life-long quest, and not for fleeting pleasures but for lasting JOY!
