It is time to be drunk! So as not to be the martyred slaves of time, be drunk, be continually drunk! On wine, on poetry or on virtue as you wish.'---Beautiful poem! Don't allow our spirit to be tampered; let us get inspired by nature!
Beautiful poem. Easier to get drunk on wine, harder on poetry and hardest on virtue. No wonder drunkenness is a problem! most chosing the w
One might drunk! Drunk of spirit, or power or money! Of the nectar of life! Or, even Hemlock, as Shelley was! ! ! What a feel this poem gives! Every time we read it, we get something new, something fresh from it. But, that is Baudelaire.
So true dear friend! The problem is, today people are drunk on mostly all the wrong things
I agree wholeheartedly with these sentients right now. Baudelaire was on point.
You have to be always drunk. That's all there is to it- it's the only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually drunk. It seems - from this poem and others - that life is an overwhelming foe.
Wow. powerful about being in love with Life. Be drunk. Love it.
Being drunk on wine or virtue can be a problem. Virtue here means spiritualism or religion. When a person is drunk in religion he/she tends to do some preaching to people around. Spiritual people don't like freedom of thought.
Baudelaire is certainly not talking about religion when he says virtue. He is speaking of heroism, of love, peace and other virtues. He is praising those who devote their lives to serving others. Self sacrifice, or giving it all for love is incredibly intoxicating.
Oh yes I agree Being drunk does not only mean about wine or liquor Yes be drunk with love or poetry or passion or happiness I am glad I saw this poem today Thank you
This poem has an hidden meaning; am trying to mediate on lines the poem: : nice one
Horrible advice. There is no need to escape reality by being drunk all the time. Life is beautiful. Learn to appreciate the beauties of this life. If you must be drunk on something, let it be poetry for sure!
Why do we live if we constantly want to escape reality? True in all times. What a tragedy!
One of the Truest and Greatest Poems ever written. Long live, Poetry!
