My words walked away
in silence, unheeded as idleness,
to the wide-open absences they came from.
In the heart there are such distances
to travel in search of what was never lost.
At such a distance I saw
something familiar in the shadows of the avenida,
the unfamiliar street on which I was born.
I did not know what to say.
Words seemed unfamiliar to me.
Yet there was the simple wisdom
of music that drew me down
the dappling cobblestones of Barcelona.
