Your poem expresses such tender feelings towards the tree that any reader will instantly feel this love for the tree.It is as if the tree is your close companion and dear member of your family.To quote from the poem- - This great rooted thing, this huge plant, so stable in its place of being, never bends despite fierce storms, does not break despite being encased in ice. Its green glory rises above my third floor apartment, above the flat roof with scattered lawn chairs and flower pots. And its canopy unfolds its mottled green blanket to shelter us below.
In our culture a Banyan tree symbolizes Universe with its branches going down and roots coming up. Regardless of symbolism the sonnet is a beautiful reminder to all of us. Trees are truly lifegivers and deserve all our reverence.
I love that symbolism of a central tree at the center of Time and Space. And reverence even for the humblest backyard tree was indeed my message.

A lovely poem Daniel.I love old trees their beauty, shelter, height and strength of existence. I guess i appreciate them more as I have become older and have planted many over the years.
