Baby Sagini's Only Mistake Poem by Job Ombati

Baby Sagini's Only Mistake

His only mistake was
to be juvenile,
naïve
and trusting.
And he paid heavily
by having dear eyes gouged out.
One professionally
but the other crudely.

His mistake:
born in indigency.
and parents
inebriated by poverty
and inconsistent in their explanation;
reason for spending time in lock up,
till their inconsistencies cleared.

In the meantime,
the real culprits
scott free they walk,
with both eyes intact
and can follow developments on Tv.
A racing of heart,
unsure at times.
What about devine retribution?

His other mistake,
perhaps an allure
an irresistable lollipop,
a rare tender word;
rarest in it's mention,
a conviction -
a coastly trust.

He was sedated
and the job done,
then dumped in a maize plantation,
to wallow in his innocent torment.
'I see darkness',
'if removed this thing, I could see.'
Not knowing 'This thing...'
was bandage covering two gaping holes!
