Awareness Poem by Hannah Davies

Awareness

When feeling sad
Some people cut up bad.
Most importantly keep the wounds clean
If it's serious, go to hospital to be seen.

Find a clean cloth and apply pressure
Call someone for help as a precautious measure.
A trust worthy friend is the steri-strip
There to try and stop the blood drip.

Self harm is a mechanism used to cope
When some people feel there is no hope.
Some people like to burn
THis can be serious and should be treated with concern.

Keep the area cool
Don't pop blisters like a fool.
Wrap in cling film to prevent infection
Seek medical advice if they are deep, don't neglect them.

Some people find there is no other way
They need to self harm to make the pain go away.
Over-dose is never a good idea
Go straight to A & E to get the all clear.

One tablet too many can kill
It can effect internal organs and make you seriously ill.
Self harm comes in many forms and disguises
More awareness and help is needed before the fatality number rises.
