Awake, O Sleeper — A Song of Dharma
Prabir Kumar Gayen
(Yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srijamyaham paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya cha dushkritam dharma samsthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge)
They do what they are told — as they are made to do,
Bound by their creed, by the law of their own truth.
A frog cannot be snake, nor snake a frog;
Each moves in rhythm with the breath of God.
All are the children of one vast design —
Some born to build, some born to break the line;
Some heal the soul, some test the heart's pure flame,
And some bring ruin — yet all in One Name.
Complain not that the snake bears poison's art;
That sting is written in the serpent's heart.
Protect thyself — not by a cry of fear,
But by the lamp of knowledge burning clear.
They play their part — it is their destined way;
But you, O lion, sleep through golden day.
A sleeping lion is the feast of hyaenas,
Do not blame them — they obey their arenas.
To wait for Krishna, hoping He will fight,
Is to forget the bow that burns with light.
One book of lies can shake the human race,
While thousand truths sleep cold in dust's embrace.
If you are slain, it is your dream that dies,
You hid your courage under gentle lies.
The Arjun in you waits beside the sea,
The Subhas flame still stirs your memory.
The Shibaji — fierce echo of the Lord —
Sleeps in your chest, forgetting his bright sword.
Your home sinks slowly into the abyss' call;
You hear the cries — yet do not stand at all.
Your wisdom now a ghost of ancient days,
Your heroes turned to smoke and temple praise.
Shake off this sleep, this spiritual disguise,
Awake! The hungry hyaenas prowl and rise.
Be lion once again, in heart and hand,
Not to destroy — but guard your sacred land.
Stand firm to save the truth, your faith, your kin,
And all the light that breathes and burns within.
Forsake the cowardice that calls itself kind;
Let courage rule your heart, not timid mind.
For Krishna fought, and Arjun took the field,
And saints have fought with prayer instead of shield.
Mercy to evil is a fatal art,
It kills the meek and breaks the righteous heart.
Demons will always act as demons must;
To trust their vow is to betray your trust.
Revolt — not with hatred, but holy flame;
Revolt for peace, for love, for Dharma's name.
Cast off the chains of creed that tear apart;
Be one in spirit, one in soul and heart.
Do not wait for the rider from the sky,
Kalki is hidden deep in you and I.
Awake, arise — let protest be your prayer,
Let courage bloom like fragrance in the air.
When lions walk as one, the dark is done;
The forest rests beneath the morning sun.
Fight not to kill — but guard what's pure and bright,
Your children's dreams, your people's holy right.
Krishna still stands — unseen, but ever near;
He waits within the silence of your fear.
Awake, arise — the Lord is by your side,
The heart's own Dharma is your only guide.
Sleep — and you'll perish in the arms of night;
Awake — and dawn will crown your brow with light.
This is the path, the way of soul's release:
To fight with love, to guard the world in peace.
Awake, O soul — be brave, be kind, be strong,
And let the rain of God become your song.
