Avenue, With Parisian Pretensions Poem by james watkin

Avenue, With Parisian Pretensions

But by one gust, by that one
Skied irritableness
More to a parading dress
Is given offence!

Oversensitive to its own
Sense of dignity
Avenue, lined with smart tree
Shows its abhorrence.

Its standing, its good name, in
High streets' clique, high-churched
Lowered, leaf-dropped on. Besmirched
Marked in consequence.
