Autism Dad Poem by Randy McClave

Autism Dad

I am an autism dad
That doesn't make me angry or sad,
Now I am a advocate by fate
At any time or on any date.
At a condition am I not angry or mad.

I am an expert when it comes to my child
As I too sometimes got wild,
But, whatever my son goes through
I will endure it and experience it too.
Unto him I am never riled.

I will celebrate my child's every milestone
As though they are my very own,
No matter how late that they are
They are still great memories in a jar.
Never, do I or we feel alone.

I am indeed a warrior and a fighter
My child is that reason he is my igniter,
I will always put my son first
Never having to be tricked or coerced.
My child makes my life so much brighter.

I will always find new ways to teach my son
I was the one to teach him how to walk then run,
And I will spread acceptance and awareness
But, always with love and with a fairness,
And always before each day has begun.

I survive with very little sleep
But, I do not ever complain or weep,
I will fight at education meetings and statement reviews
Because fighting for my child I alone did choose.
And those victories we will all reap.

Unless my shoes were on your two feet
You don't know of my fury or of my heat,
For my son I will not never give up
Fighting against autism I will never shut up.
And I will not ever accept defeat.
