Augury Poem by Shirley Harrison

Augury

Looking back now

I should have known

when I saw Raven there

in the middle of the road

because, it was 5 am

and I was finally going home

I was the happiest I'd been for ages

A perfect summer's Dawn

with a perfect rising Sun

I'd never seen him there before, in the middle of the road

so I should have known?

I should have read it as a sign?

and I should have turned back

so now I know...

I cannot change what is or what has been?

but if I ever see him there again

My darling Raven, in the middle of the road

I'll know, I'll know...

just what to do.
