This poem is a real 'tour de force', beautifully written and constructed as a conversation including a series of questions and addresses first to oneself and then to one who has raised your hopes and then caused such grief by leaving them as it were stranded. The metre and rhymes are excellent throughout, while the simplicity and mood of exhausted resignation of the final stanza is superb. I like, too, how the change in the rhyme scheme of this last stanza from ABAB elsewhere in the poem to AABB helps to emphasize its change of mood. Congratulations on a very fine poem. Pity if the person addressed cannot read it; such an eloquent appeal could not fail to persuade.
