The land is dead and gone, Lady.
It's as though it never lived.

wow! ! ..now the poem is amazing...nd it reminds of the scene in 2012 where the president decides to stay wit the people..ur usage of words is simple nd apt.. u have used NAUGHT instead of NOTHING...that gives it a poetic touch..most of al, I loved the last stanza of the poem.! ! ! .

Hey Shyam, Basically Atlantis is like a parallel poem to a book I've written by the same name which hasn't been published yet. I think of this as the Queen of Atlantis speaking about her country as it sinks into the sea.. according to the legend there was a huge earthquake/volcano which triggered a tsunami around the end of the last ice age, and the combination destroyed the land of Atlantis. In my book, the people know about this in advance, & they plan to evacuate. But the Queen says that she wants to stay on and die with her land, because she loves it so much. One of her advisors tells her she should save herself, because however much she loves the land, it's dead while her people are still living, and she has a duty to them. That's the conversation in this poem, between the Queen and her advisor. The philosophical undercurrent is that nothing is completely dead and gone as long as the memory remains. Hope I cleared it up :) Thanks for asking! :) Thanks a lot for saying all those nice things! :) Priya.

There are others too that die, Sir, You too will one day pass – But let none say you never were, You never shared a laugh; For in that day, most noble Lord, It will be true, you'll be lost, And the years you'd lived on earth, my Lord, Will be gone, by all forgot. Enigmatic piece.........love atlantis tooo..... good poem Priya
