Just brilliant, Susan. You have so deftly wielded the sparseness of verbage to create powerful spaces of stunning impact between images and thoughts. Each staccato image strikes like a punch. There is an aura here, the difficult journey of life connecting past to future that is not only cathartic, but unforgettable, and I don't want to forget it. Beautifully done, Susan. Bravo.

amen, susan. may our hearts melt where they are stony. it's a challenge, and i don't know that we can make it happen. but how good it is when it does and we have the clarity and joy it brings. nothing makes me tear up more than seeing kindness and mercy in others or in myself. it's a gift to be moved. -glen

An unfortunate turn of events can place us on a difficult path to walk. Youth can be a little more forgiving of early mistakes and poor judgment yet sometimes the scarring of life can take us to the grave disappointed and regretful. A powerful poem with haunting images.

Thank you for the read and the encouraging comment, Simone. Sometimes the choices we make when young set us on a path that gets harder and harder to swerve off of onto another path.

People who have fallen and have been unfeeling and are now lost when come to reckon their mistakes are likely to repent and wish to get a transformation effected on them! A pitiable situation is beautifully summarized! I wonder if my reading of it is the one you intended!

Valsa, you have a sensitive soul and have sensed the young woman and the old woman are one and the same in the sense that we all look for redemption and some find it at long last in a moment of truth and humility while others are searching blindly for it and perhaps in time will find it if they open their eyes.... and maybe the old woman is the girl finally grown up.... ;)

Well, I just read this Susan...and it just left me so, so sad; Reminding me of a few I knew back in the day - that must have been completely blind - to have done the things that they did to others...and they must have all had hearts of stone...that really is the only way to describe them...one can only hope, later in life, we they have come to nothing, that finally, God will somehow erase, the they that they once were, and to give them a warm, kind, caring, loving, compassionate heart. Great write, Susan! A 10!

Bless your heart, Theo, for not wanting God to rain down condemnation but forgiveness and change on these hurtful people's heads. So, you see, through you and those warm, kind, caring, loving, compassionate hearted people.like you, compassion is taking back the world one person at a time. How about I give you a huge 10! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I agree with MJ . It has an authentic feel of a Dylan song with a very subtle rhythm. I'll put it in my favourites to remind me to read it again and again. One of your best, Sue!

Stunning imagery, Susan. There's something about both the diction and the meter that screams Bob Dylan. An excellent poem; a 10.
