Your poem reminds me of Faust's belief we have two souls: one is visionary which pulls us toward what is good, true and beautiful; the other is is purely animal instinct, immediate gratification, no spiritual dimension. Faust concludes just like your poem that we are fighting a battle inside our hearts and minds over their competing claims. I have no doubt your visionary soul will prevail and become stronger in the process - and write the poems that will inspire the rest of us to Victory

Imagine if you were one of the poor unfortunate souls that found no joy in literature, no depth in thought, no avenues of contemplation and self-realization. What a poor life this would be to forever chase the most basic things set before you. To never have dreams worth dreaming when by yourself. When the consumer is consumed and only responds to all of the pedestrian beads and baubles that society dangles before their eyes. This business of ego and insecurity. To sell oneself cheap. The mechanical rotation, the poor wretched soul that measures everything in instant gratification, always taking, never creating. Count your blessings Nosheen that fortune did not cheat you out of this gift of life. You can rejoice in your ability to move beyond the cycle, the rut of conventionality. These foolish souls that revel in mediocrity will ultimately lead cheap lives, lonely existences that will be all the more apparent when they have to pay one way or another for the damages that such shallow living will bring.

Alienation from one's own true nature and self is well described in this poem through a series of well-chosen adjectives that stand for what we really are not. One can be really free only when one is denuded of all these false coverings. Well done. (10)

We are creatures of evolutionary instinct. Controlled by our brains and chemical releases from the endocrine system. Once we realize this, we can consciously choose to be at odds with what our minds try to force us to do and feel, and thus do what is logical and correct for us

The very first line explains modern man's plight! ' Life denuded of soul'..... something has basically gone wrong here....! Man devoid of soul has only a physical existence and such a man will be at odds with everything! Pure joy and bliss of life is possible only if body and soul coexist as a harmonious entity..... A highly philosophical write!
