This is a true story that happened to me
Some twenty years ago.
Early one sunny morning, on an errand I did go;
Driving on a road near Emmanuel Drive, I was shocked to see
Another car coming from a side road without stopping!
Luckily, the left-hand lane was empty,
So I changed lane hastily,
Thus, a needless collision avoiding.
The other driver was a young woman busily
Talking to her girlfriend passenger.
Ah! Two chatty Katies, putting others in danger easily.
I fell back to give the distracted driver space a-plenty;
But her car kept on going at a speed high.
O mine! A major intersection at Lesile Avenue was coming up -
In time she was not going to stop!
The traffic light turned from amber to red...
O, how could I ever warn her? How?
I was so far behind her, honking would be quite useless.
In desperation, I prayed to my Guardian Angel holy:
Please, please help her to stop the car safely
Before it was too late!
I saw the car went through
The red light and there came a loud, long squeaking
With lots of white smoke arising.
Thank God!
Praise the Lord!
The car did stop though it was resting at the centre of the junction.
I do hope the young lady did learn her lesson.
