As Spring Erupts Poem by Deanna Samuels

As Spring Erupts

Riding the path into the nearby woods
everywhere, all around, Spring is erupting
bursting to be free from long winter stay.
Grasses, deep emerald growing thickly,
ferns shooting up, uncurling delicate fronds,
fresh green sprouts overtaking dying dried rushes.
Trees, heavy with own unique spring blossoms
while others unfold their new mint fresh dress
as delicate wild violets scatter woodland floor
and bright yellow dandelions take their claim,
yet still, other wild flowers make their bid,
springing eruptively upon the river banks
and along the footpath's wide verges.

Turning away from the woods and stream,
domestic gardens are reborn anew,
daffodils abound and tulips stand tall
though sadly, already the magnolias wane,
their life span so short of magnificent beauty
and passing by a newly mowed lawn,
the aroma is exquisite, lingering in the air,
wanting to stay longer to breathe the freshness
and yet, more Spring sights to see, find.
Two beautiful white swans now inhabit the lake
overtaking from Mallard and Marbled ducks
wintering there through the snow and ice.
What glorious scenes to discover as Spring erupts.
