As Peacock Prances Poem by Doris Cornago

As Peacock Prances

My heart is a peacock
Showing out feathers
Beckoning to you
Come hither
Delight
Don't
Fright
Lover by
My bedside
Eyes staring
Words striving
Hopelessly saying
Stay, but as peacock
Prances, no one notices
Pitiful bird plays a dirge

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A peacock is a showoff, many would think that, but the peacock only wants to be noticed by one and does not crave everyone's adulation. Unfortunately, the one peahen the peacock wants to notice his dance is unaffected by it all, and maybe, even gets scared by too much exuberance. Remember this, my friends, and not despair at the ignominy and futility of laying down poems at the feet of your chosen one.

Yes, there's two and more of us. Thank you for this keen interpretation. :)

You may be misunderstood when you dance but glory in the message you bring out to the world, the essence of your existence. But be thrifty with words, and not be too exuberant with the display of your dexterity which dilutes the poignancy of a moment's distillation - given only to you and no one else. This is your commission, not the adulation.
