Michael, the irony used in this is absolutely perfect. The picture of yourself at an early age deciding you couldn't tell the truth to grownups until they 'grow up' made me remember that I tested my parents (divorced) all the time as a little child to see whether they were lying to me. Some things we do not learn at school or at the hands of our parents. We learn a great deal from life experience, our children (oh yes) friends and input from people like yourself who reflect on the finer aspects of the human experience. This poem has taught me something.
