Art Poetica (Quintus Horatius) Comments

I'm glad to find someone else who appreciates Horace. I have Walt Whitman for excitement and Rilke for visionary scope. But Horace is that model poet who was also a model human being. I re-read his four books of ODES in a formal translation two years, but this summer I'm re-reading them again in very free translation by contemporary poets. Horace is uniquely the poet of friendship - the best people bringing out the best in each other. That is high praise for a man who lived THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS long before Jefferson coined the phrase.

Mr John, you have gone for a novel attempt over a few poems that have great educative value as well. Your understanding of the Roman poet Horace has rightly been shared with us all and this poem is one of your best contributions of 2012 and let me hope many more will be ensuing in the new year 2013. Yes, Horace's Ars Poetica, though written a long time ago still holds good for pioneering poets and serves as a master giude to poetry writers! An erudite write! !

Interesting write - not heard of this man before. Modern style poetry does seem to be more in favour these days, which is okay, but it is a shame that the older styles are often not appreciated.

Artistic Gulsher. You have done extremely well to convey the rules of a great literary giant of Augustus age in your poem. Yes I believe these the requirements of poetry and should be practiced by all those who want to be true poets. I wish I practice them as much as possible.
