Excellent stuff. Couldn't agree more. If it sounds like prose when read aloud, it's prose. Putting line breaks in eccentric positions doesn't make a poem. Poems don't necessarily have to rhyme, but they aren't just prose either. The informality of modern verse is a good thing, only if used with sense and moderation. Some are offering mutton dressed as lamb.
I agree with your point but there are two main styles of poetry...traditional verse and modern verse.Modern verse doesn't follow a structure like traditional rhyme verse does..prose-poetry is more poetic than regular prose...this would be a good argument to bring to the forum.i write both types of poetry including Eastern and Western style haiku, lyrical traditional verse and prose-poetry for example please read my poem Speak of Love for an example of prose-poetry and Elegy To Time for traditionally structured rhymed verse...
