I watched from the first floor window
As the snowflakes filled the skies
Surrounded by some Christmas gifts
And some welcome warm mince pies
The fire ablaze and the flames so red
As if the wood was bleeding
My friends around with warming smiles
As I sat in the armchair, reading
While children slept, the adults wept
Recalling younger days
Tears of joy, as the memories raised
Were met with warmth and praise
The year might have been fading
And the new year looming fast
But the laughter filled the living room
As they remembered Christmas past
And as the snow was falling
I watched it get so deep
The kids were missing so much fun
While they were fast asleep
But now there'll be tomorrow
Another New Years day
And lots of time when they wake up
To go outside and play
