Hi KRISTI - Another difficult subject - PRO LIFE. There are other PRO LIFE subjects on the PH list. Personally I agree with PRO LIFE and it does beg the question - How could the (potential) Mother ever consent to the death of her (potential) children. 'Who was the woman we called mother? ' Life begins at conception and the mother feels the presence of the child form a very early age and with 'scans' can actually see the baby and see it moving while it is still in the womb. Us mere men can share in the experience but we cannot acctually experience it. This is why (I believe) this poem is directed to the Mother and not the Father. So the poem does not say SHE DID NOT SEE but poses the very poignant question DID SHE NOT SEE our pain - DID SHE NOT HEAR our cries. Christians believe that aborted children, and babies who die young - die in innocence and are receieved into Heaven. Hence the hope in the last stanza We are safe now Wrapped up in the arms of love and we will never have to be afraid of someone that we love. I have interpreted the poem in terms of ABORTION it could also refer to INFANTICIDE which is much less common. A very sad poem - but expressed in beautiful words. Well done another 10!
