An apple ripens,
Bends the highest bough,
Beyond our reach, outstretching.
Suspended too, the skylark's
Alto trilling blends
So many notes
Together in a single second,
Beyond our reach, our understanding.
And yet our dreams grow tall
In our attempts to mime
In lyrics of a rhyme
- - - - - - I wonder why I had not found this rhyme earlier.
Hi Bharati,
It was inspired by the Greek poet, Sappho. She wonders why one lone apple has not been picked.
Then she realises it was too high to get. Sappho herself climbs high in my estimation and so do you.
