Swimming Naked in Snapping Turtle Pondby Kim BarneyIt happened many years ago; I was with Rex and Jim and Joeand several other boys from town.We drove up in the mountain highand just by chance someone did spya sign that said " Snapping Turtle Pond" .We'd never seen that sign before, so we made that jalopy roaron down that road to see what we could find.We found the pond; it had a signthat said " Danger! No Swimming! " Ninetimes out of ten, that meant a challenge.Of course, no swimming suits were brought, but did that stop us? Of course not! Before too long, the bunch of us were nude.Into the pond we all did leap! We couldn't let our worries keepus from a most refreshing swim. Most made it all the way across; there was just one who had a loss: Joseph was stripped of his social prestige.Of such adventures we were made; in time, all bad memories fade. These days we just call him Josephine.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Written 23 April 2020 on a challenge or suggestion by my sister. At the time, she was participating in a contest called " 30 poems in 30 days" .One day she told me she was having a hard time thinking of a poem title for that day. I suggested a bunch, including this one. She then challenged me to write a poem to go with that title. This poem is the result.
