This poem was sparked by a discussion on polyamory and God as religion has to do with such relationships - mono or poly. Somehow the definition of who god is has something to do with what he allows or forbids, the forbidden in turn having something to do with punishment. As I sit on the beach alone, confronting my own thoughts, the weight of the years overwhelms me, thus this lament of a poem.

Religion is a hornets' nest. Poke it and a whole horde sets upon you, bent on inflicting punishment.
