Apparitions Poem by Doris Cornago

Apparitions

Rating: 5.0

I am
Sitting
Here alone
Ruminating on
Wasted chances
Halfsteps, doubts
Backward glances
Apparitions pounce
Delusions on what if
Causality pondering
Premonitions scatter
Breaking asunder our
Beliefs, on faith and
Misplaced loyalty
Punishment by
Death, due to
Differences
Religion

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The worst distance between two persons is misunderstanding and in the same degree, the worst battle is that being fought for many centuries, in the name of religion. The clashing of perceptions about who God is and what he wants done has laid to waste whole countries, communities and relationships between two persons. God is the apparition who haunts us all, inspiring fear more than awe, among the many apparitions which confront us, making us stumble and fall.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

This poem was sparked by a discussion on polyamory and God as religion has to do with such relationships - mono or poly. Somehow the definition of who god is has something to do with what he allows or forbids, the forbidden in turn having something to do with punishment. As I sit on the beach alone, confronting my own thoughts, the weight of the years overwhelms me, thus this lament of a poem.

Religion is a hornets' nest. Poke it and a whole horde sets upon you, bent on inflicting punishment.
