The sable sky devours the dying sun
Apollo sleeps, thus silent be his lyre,
So I shall sleep, for now the day is done

I love this poem with beautiful imagery and brilliant lines that are so thought provoking!
I revere the ancient Greek deities, for me they are not dead but live within the psyche. A book by the German scholar Walter Otto called THE HOMERIC GODS has informed my viewpoint. So my POV on Apollo is the beautiful but terrifying god who appears in the ILIAD. Your poem has refreshed me with an entirely different POV. Herein Apollo is the god of poetry, the one who inspires humans, and he too sleeps like all of us. I'm sure this sleep and yours and mine will be the sleep which restores the tired mind, fills it with new energy and prepares it for the next poem upon awakening. I can almost guarantee it; your sonnet gives that confidence.
Great work of art here. You've got the words and the pen at your reachable disposal. Nice ma. . Joseph Oladehinde Ibikunle (Nigeria)
Awesome! I wish there was no end to this mesmerising sonnet: ( -W
Great subject for topic, it feels very much like a forgetting work that was found in an attic, the words jut drift so naturally to each other. No more forsake your light is bright. the sun god himself would find this a fitting tribute in his honour.
Apollo has indeed become my Sun God, since choosing to live on Solar Energy, When he sleeps my batteries suffer, when he wakes all is well in my delicate little world. I also pray that he shall wake again and again. Nice touch Valerie, the Sun is life itself......
There's something enchanting about the way you write. Truly beautiful!
For blinded thus, my soul no longer sings (Apollo sleeps, the poet’s heart then stilled) , All thought has flown upon celestial wings My heart no more to dance, no more fulfilled Beautiful concept! The thoughts flown upon celestial wings will definitely come back to the poet to take her to ever loftier heights! ! Greatly enjoyed! !
A lovely sonnet Val, inspirational. There is something special about a sonnet, keep writing them.
A beautiful sonnet with an amazing imaginary, you brought in deity like Apollo, the God of poetry and literature. very nice, Valerie... loved it.
