The speaker describes herself as beyond feelings, way beyond them, hardly able to even remember them. And images of dryness and emptiness show the consequent apathy. I find the 7th stanza especially desolate: even the tools of your poetry writing are gripped by this apathy and can no longer fulfill their mission of expression of feelings and ideas. But wait, even that 7th stanza expresses what it says it cannot. And the whole poem apprehends apathy with precision, eloquence and truth. The poem itself, and the creativity it displays, are still very much alive. The apathy may only skin deep. Below that dead-end emotion, other are still alive and active, sending forth positive energy from the psyche.
I have admired you, sear Daniel, in your literary ctitic.I'm looking up all your comments I can find.Congratulations.
All has been consumed: Eye for beauty, heart for love; Ear for music—touch of soul........impressive beginning relating to the title of the poem. It is really a beautiful poem on apathy and love lost. Thanks for sharing.
