Half their lives women pick stones from the rice. All their lives stones pile up in their hearts, no one there to touch them even with two fingers. ---These lines say it all about the wretched life the majority of women live.

A poignant and touching depiction of a woman's place in society. I hope laws have been enacted to uplift the living condition of women. Liked the closure lines. So beautifully and powerfully expressed.

The poem you've shared paints a poignant picture of the daily life of women, highlighting the challenges and burdens they carry. The poet uses vivid imagery and simple yet powerful language to convey the harsh realities many women face in traditional, patriarchal societies.

3) I know about the situation in her own country, because I have read many of her poems. Now she is residing abroad, because her government wants to imprison her. Excellent Modern Poem Of The Day by Dr. Taslima Nasrin.

2) because she regards the rules for women and the Islamic belief not correct. Women here are not the equals of men, they have the duty to serve their men, then they were beaten too, this is not OK.

" They spend the evening feeding the little ones, lulling them to sleep in the glow of the bottle lamp. The rest of the night they offer their back to be slapped and kicked by the men of the house or sprawl half-naked on the hard wooden cot. Crows and women greet the dawn together" A sad... sad... story, quite realistic... the ordeal... continues unheard... am speechless… Thanks

The rest of the night they offer their back to be slapped and kicked by the men of the house or sprawl half-naked on the hard wooden cot. Crows and women greet the dawn together, sadness and brutality......terrible experiences. tony

Sad comments from the pen of a woman who herself has suffered in her own country, and now living in exile. An apt choice to be selected for the second time as the poem of the day.

The hardships through which women in most of the developing and under developed nations pass through out their lives have been portrayed in this poem even today. A well deserved modern poem of the day.

Half their lives women pick stones from the rice. All their lives stones pile up in their hearts, no one there to touch them even with two fingers. - - - - - The last three lines say it all about the plight of women, not only in Bangladesh, but of many countries where women practically have no voice of their own and live a life of suffering their whole life.
