Another If Poem by Joe Fraccalvieri

Another If

Would there be days without light, or one continuous night
if the rays of the sun were stricken from sight

If birds had not wings, with which they could fly
would they still be there-- somewhere... in the sky

Without the weight of years for us to shoulder
to create the tears that surround our eyes
would we continue to age-- would our bodies grow older
would laughter abound, and not the sound of cries

If we never heard a ring of truth, could we ever tell a lie...
If we never had to lose our youth, would we still be born to die

If nothing was wrong, would it all be right...
If we couldn't read a poem-- or sing a song
would we feel right at home--
would this world of ours seem just as bright

If we never told a soul hello, dare we say, 'goodbye'
Without a single thought to dwell in our head
would we even wonder why

Blessed be the things we see-- all that we have had...
every moment of joy and ecstasy
for each second that we were sad

Embrace every minute
and in it be glad...
Without one another-- the good and the bad
the sky would shudder-- the clouds looking plaid
And like brother against brother...
The world would go mad
