And Sauce Will Spring From The Soil - Really? Poem by cahen thrips

And Sauce Will Spring From The Soil - Really?

Colman's Mint Sauce, grown in Norfolk,
how ambiguous you are,
with your apposite art nouveau label,
your square and traditional glass jar.

When I was young I loved you
with a tender rack of lamb;
now I'm old and vegetarian
I find you go well with yam.

But I have to say when I have a choice
my favourite way of taking you in
is added to a bowl of pea soup
out of a Baxter's tin.

So I hope you'll accept this paean
without deeming me too stuck on facts;
forgive me for offending your marketing staff
as I forgive your dubious syntax.
