My God, why do You love a few for no reason
And shower them with bliss? — An act of treason
Against those whom You have impaired and left
Nothing at all, a life lame and bereft.
It singes my heart and soul when I behold
The peacock perching over steeples of gold
Proffered by people who eye the crow with scorn
When it moans watching the cuckoo every morn.
Unfair are You and Your august retainer:
Time, so strange sometimes, heeds no honest prayer,
Adds charm to those fed, rifling from those famished.
The pure are refined; disowned are the blemished.
I saw my riches come to dust
And many battles won and durst;
Been in great rankings top and first
But not in for what I had a thirst.
This orchard of life has an unfair keeper,
Distant and unseen, who ignores the creeper
Vying with the conifer with hope feral
To emerge the victor donning the medal.
1 - a little clarification for glossary: " What does Durst mean? verb. Archaic. simple past tense of dare **." AND: dare ** (2 definitions) " 1. have the courage to do something. " a story he dare not write down" h Similar: be brave enough have the courage etc. 2. (i wouldn't use this one) defy or challenge (someone) to do something. (cont.)
To a deprived and depraved man, God's acts may seem very unjust! The Almighty showers blessings upon blessings on a few while a majority are fated to live in utter misery and want! To ordinary mortals, this is a disparity unpardonable. The conifers grow tall and sturdy in the orchard and the creepers are unable to thrive without support! God's justice who can truly measure? A beautiful poem!
I MUST BE TRULY " DEPRIVED AND DEPRAVED" ! ! Really, i'm at least deprived. bri :)
