An Uncertain New Year Poem by Marilyn Lott

An Uncertain New Year

Once again we are starting a new year
I have seen so many so far
I have seen happiness and sadness
I have seen some that left a scar.

Many things we have no choice in
We have to just watch it unfold
We can pray, that is what I'm doing
That my worries will be kept on hold.

Until they fade out without consequences
That nothing will go startlingly bad
It didn't have to happen, I know that
So I cannot help but feel terribly sad.

I hope many uncertainties do not come to pass
I will just keep living as I have for 82 years
Hoping and praying the generations after me
Will be safe from my many worries and my fears.

I started out in the year of 1942, you see
I'm sure it was a time that many then had fears
War was imminent during that time
I pray that 2025 will not be a bad year!
