She leaned on her stick like the Tower of Pisa
Her bones, porous and brittle, might break any day
She is all alone, her husband dead and gone
Her only son, years before, shot down by a gun

The shining face of God waiting to receive her This aged pilgrim focuses only on that goal in view To the grave she quickly treads, never to return And there is a rare glow in her eyes.......fine concluding with nice expression. Beautiful poem,

The old women like a ship, withers through times storms, but remains indomitable, the recurring line in the brightness of her eyes, is interesting, no matter how physically depleted she has become, there still remains a persistent strength that keeps her going. Heartwarming poem Valsa, the elderly are looked down upon in our world but they should be respected for making it through. the old women reminds me of my grandmother, I wish her long life and peace.

Thank you Valsa George for recognising the rare glow in the old eyes. The glow of a dying lamp is bright, the bright rememberence of the begone days that lingers in the heart makes the glow. This glow can be seen in all old eyes irrespective of. (Hope you are not partial)

So beautiful! There is a rare glow in her eyes..... Love brightens each living moment even when its presence is invisible to our senses but floating somewhere in oblivion. I hope her glow shines upon our path. Thank you Valsa for such a positive outlook upon aging process.

Reaching old age is always a blessing. Not all of.us are blessed with this status in life. To be happy and contented at this age is more.than a blessing. And to be ready to face God anytime is just an amazing disposition in life. Just like the great Poetess, I wish and.hope I could be like this old woman someday.

A wonderful, inspiring and heartwarming write. The recurring lines, " there is a rare glow in her eyes enhance the beauty of this marvelous poem. My heart goes to this old woman. Despite being alone and weak, still she is happy. An exemplar of good character and happy and good disposition in life.

Whoever sees the glow in someone's eyes means that with emotions he sees the details. We are made up of a particle that sometimes brings us joy and sometimes sorrow. Great poem. I bow to you Poetess.

A heartfelt poem, the storyline adds the flavour of the past. Aging is a phenomena and no one can deny nor escape yet there are few who with their courage and ever smiling face succeeds in defying it. As we march towards our ultimate end the spark in eyes gives respite to those who are young and following the footsteps. A wonderful poem. Nothing less than 10++++ and many mores.

You are absolutely right, Asim! Aging cannot be denied or escaped! In course of time everyone will be old, but only a few will be able to age with so much of grace as this old woman! Thank you for your lovely comment!

We very often hear, that is the spirit which never ages as the body does, and this poem confirms it! I often see serenity and innocence in the eyes of elder people I randomly observe; and, of course, it helps me as well to deal with the fact that I am growing older. A greatly perceived poem!

Yes, the sparkle in the eyes of some old people helps us accept our own aging and we begin to accept our age with grace! Thank you Mihaela for your beautiful comment!

A magnificent poem, Valsa. Your observations are profound. Near the time we depart this mortal coil is just when so many experience the profoundest joy and wealth of spirit. This one goes to myfavourites.

I don't know whether you write the poem first and then find a suitable picture or the other way...here both are in perfect match....a common reality in life with many old folks....you have brought it out beautifully in your own beautiful style..great work Valsa 10++++

Sometimes, seeing an image I write a poem to suit it, but mostly I write the poem and select an image to go with it! So happy that you put such a question to me! Thanks a lot Indiraji for your lovely comment!

Susan.... you have lifted me to giddy heights! When I saw an old lady who lost her son and husband in her early forties and still remaining happy, I was inspired to write about her. Now she is in her late eighties and she says she is waiting for God’s final call! Such people, especially those who have braved the storms of life with equanimity, greatly inspire me. Thank you once again for your lovely appraisal!

And there is a rare glow in her eyes The shining face of God waiting to receive her This aged pilgrim focuses only on that goal in view.... Through this animated portrait of an old lady who has lost the most cherished moments of her life long ago and is waiting for her last journey 'never to return', we as a reader see a very sensitive soul doing this portrait. I'm greatly thankful to you, Valsa ji, for creating such an important poetic marvel.
