An Italian (Petrarchan)sonnet on a Canadian theme
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I read about the beautiful garden at Giverny which belonged to Monet
And the writer spoke about visiting it and the museum in a day
And she had "trop bonne (too good) " an experience after eating a gourmet tomato
And no tomato is complete without bread from a well worked out dough
I had come across a similar recipe in a Canadian book by Jacqueline Duval
Which included a popular theme, cooking for sensual pleasure,
"Venus in the Kitchen" by Norman Douglas is included as an example
And I invite you to my kitchen to sample Psyche's culinary skills
For cooking also speaks to my soul and brings out the love in my heart
For there is the side to cooking and baking that is an art
Like the poetry written by Petrarch that talks of ivory and men turning to marble
And Canadian men and women are hungry for love
But Canada is children friendly among other things and the affairs of the bedroom
Must be dictated by smores and "oots" and "aboots" and "ehs".
