An Ill-Fated Quest Poem by Laurence Overmire

An Ill-Fated Quest

there are people who
only see
themselves
in the reflection of a mirror

they live small lives
in the circumference of an
ego
bounded by ignorance

and greed

we wish them well
these misguided
brothers
and sisters

no certain star to guide them
in their sad, woebegone
odyssey
their ships forever

lost
at sea
drifting
never finding

the true compass of the
heart
that leads them
most assuredly

to the calm, sunlit waters
of home.
