An Exquisite Painting Poem by Stephen Omolori

An Exquisite Painting

Silence echoes throughout the night:
Mosquitoes have stopped singing, a firefly puts off its light.
Knowing I've been thinking of you since the crack of dawn,
To watch me write about you, they put their best behaviours on.
Some stray dogs howl at the Moon, but she tells them, "Hush! "
Though we are all paintings painted by God's brush,
Your beauty shows that He took His time while painting you,
Selecting a hue none could rival beneath the blue.
Since duplication waters down rareness,
He made just you alone perfect for my heart's canvas.
Though some people say exquisite paintings turn hearts to slaves,
Just beautify me beyond when my Endymion awakes.
Seeing that God made you earth's finest artwork,
Watch me write about your beauty in my finest verse.
Like Leonardo da Vinci's paintings hung on a museum's walls,
I will show you off until the day my breath runs its course.
