An Estate Called Ely.....A Dark Poem Poem by Shaun Cronick

An Estate Called Ely.....A Dark Poem

Rating: 5.0

Into the estate called Ely,
I drove one fateful day.
Badly injured and seeking help,
That evening so wet and gray.

I drove down a tendril road,
Through a harsh Cardiffian storm.
And passed a kid who stared at me,
So strange so odd so not the norm.

In the pub I saw what I thought was God,
Warming Himself by the fire.
The Devil sat and conversed with Him,
About what I didn't enquire.

Then deliriously found myself in a graveyard,
So black and sinister I had to strike a flame.
I looked down and saw a brand new gravestone,
I stood there terrified for on it was my name!

The graveyard wind howled...
Secrets and forgotten dreams.
For in this estate called Ely...
Nothing is as what it seems.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Dedicated to Hollie Roberts who after reading A Town Called Eerie came up with the idea of Ely where she lives. Ely is an estate of Cardiff and is does have a graveyard. What a spooky coincidence! ! ! ! Thanks Hollie this is yours.
