An Epic Poem About Canada Ii

An epic poem about Canada II

The Goddess Libertas blessed the voyage of John Cabot,
An Italian who set sail across the Atlantic Ocean on June 24th,1497
The ocean was calm and the waters were blue as his heart
Which beat faster at the thought of discovering new soil
Which could become his chosen land of residence
He had decided for sunny Italy had bidden him to
Seek new territory that would bring them revenue
Or Libertas, was it the fun of adventure
That had dictated his voyage across the ocean and the
Sunny skies where the sun set, beseeching of man
To end his quest for life's work and rewards
And night stole upon his rejoicing soul
John Cabot's heart sang with glee
When he sighted land and Muse, he said,
Give me thoughts that shall tell my tale
To the King of England who had signed his deed of possible discovery
But he was swept away by a sense of the moment of being
And he and his men reached land at what came to be known as Cape Bonavista in Newfoundland;

The indigenous man was friendly but wary of his land being
Taken over by the white man who had emerged out of the water
With Neptune being his benefactor and Sedna decrying that
The miles and miles of ocean must end and their ship must dock
And his and his men's feet must walk on land
Which had the scent of freedom
Mingled with his sense of belonging
And the indigenous man welcomed the voyagers
With a taste of his moose
John Cabot and his men shared their bread and coffee and tea
And the sun shone with its smiling and winking friendliness
A new tomorrow was born and the country took its name
From the indigenous people
O Canada, this was your birth as we Canadians know it.
