An Elegy On The Dead Soldiers In The Battle Of Vimy Ridge

An elegy on the dead soldiers in the Battle of Vimy Ridge
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
It was not their fight
It was England's fight
And Canada had to battle in enemy territory
So there would be no world dominance by one country, Germany,
There were 5000 Canadian soldiers who guarded the four brave chosen
Who ambushed the two German soldiers operating machine guns
If the 5000 Canadian soldiers took bullets and were fired upon
The four soldiers stealthily attacking the enemy soldiers
Faced capture and possible death also
This was war, the "icy hand of death"
Was at odds with the possible joyous cry of victory
There were comrades who fell under the heavy blow of injury
And those who lived to tell the tale of how Canada won the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Please note: During the 100th anniversary of World War I, Canada led by PM Justin Trudeau,
had a celebration in Vimy Ridge which was telecast by CBC.
