An Atlantic In A Drop Poem by Harun Al Nasif

An Atlantic In A Drop

In this endless world, devoid of width or length,
I acknowledge the insignificance,
And the triviality of my existence.
Yet, I can no way resort to diminish myself.
At times, engulfed in the shame of my perceived grandeur,
I retreat into the depths like a snail,
And, grappling with the fragile shell,
I, an Atlantic in a drop, begin to tremble.

But the concept of greatness refuses to desert me.
Many esteemed and illustrious figures
Appear to me as mere moles!
And I, akin to a majestic blue whale,
Rule over the empire of water—
Surprise!
The sea appears as an enclosed expanse,
Devoid of streams.

As I find no smooth pathways to traverse
throughout history,
My pace falters, discomfort ensues.
What a revelation!
Troy fell for this Helen!
Great Caesar pursued this Cleopatra!
Absurd!
Oh Michelangelo! Did you name this Venus?

Oh Gosh!
To all the dwarfs and ostentatious,
Everything took on a magnificence.
In descriptions laden with exaggerated emotions,
Shallow waters blown up to unfathomable ocean!

Let us narrate the tale of the ocean to the frog in the pond!
