This is a powerful poem that speaks of the utterly human parts of us that mixes with the spiritual and the soul. There is also utter failure expressed. The final lines recall a murder of sorts with words. I enjoyed your poem, but it made me sad.

UTTER FAILURE - Yes, it is a bitter truth: if the love that brought the couple together is murdered, the separation has already occurred.

Intimacy is a spiritual sight by which I see depth of truth in you and you in me. It is two hearts fused, two minds united, two bodies one. - - - - - - - - - - -Marriage is a poem where our faith, our trust flow in, where - - soul and body unite - - - - - - Divorce is cancellation of every line of this poem - - - - -

A philosophical write on marriage n divorce. You nailed it. Marriage must be a fusion of both bodies n souls. If desire takes over n love is skin deep, it's hard to sustain a relationship. We need a balance between the two to make a relationship work. A deep psychological study of marriage. Divorce is a failure indeed of two hearts to unite on deeper levels. A big 10.

Your comment, Nosheen, expresses the essence of the poem, and more importantly the basic cause that divides a partners who fail to achieve the oneness, the fusion and balance you cute.

It is gorgeous poem om marriage and divorce having touching expression with astute presentation. Dear Brick sir, you have so nicely and aptly painted the meaning of marriage and divorce and has posted a fantastic scene of modern marriage. Let me quote some lines... We can perform for moments, for a moment we are united. The momentary is all of this rapture we are given. But our hearts, those finely tuned instruments of feelings, imbue memory with lasting appreciation. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ''''''''''! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ''''''''''! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ''''''''! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! What is Intimacy but a common treasure we both acknowledge as priceless? Intimacy is a spiritual sight by which I see depth of truth in you and you in me. It is two hearts fused, two minds united, two bodies one. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! '''''''''! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ''''''''! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! '''''''''''! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! '''''''''''! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! What is divorce? The cancellation of every line of this poem. The breaking of every promise carried by its words over time. The denial of its lyrical delight, the silencing of its life long conversation. Thanks for sharing.

i read this with interest, daniel. but how could one not? - this which is forefront in the lives of most of us. there are physical attractions which, for me, have not abated. but then the knowledge gained over time that what we want is to take in a person whole, and this is not accomplished however hard the flesh is pressed together. i may have said this already to you somewhere else, but it seems to me that intimacy and trust are positively related, and trust takes time and risk. to be naked- in a total sense- to be openly ourselves- and accepted- i know no better, no greater, affirmation. another discovery for me in these later years is that given the opportunity, one can experience the heart and soul of another, deeply appreciate another, in what might be called platonic love. but for me, this phrase seems devoid of the warmth that can infuse the tasting of another this way. glen

Glen the discoveries you have made over the years create the right relationship and will prevent bitterness which is what the poem's narrator is experiencing. There is a positive poem about msrriage inside your prose comment..

the sad but beautiful closing lines of your poem, 'An Analysis Of Modern Marriage', should be part of your Introduction for our book 'WHEN LOVE IS BITTER'... '' I carry inside, where soul fills the space of body, the corpses of both of us. They were fused into one body for burial, but there are really two, which never were truly one. You never told me our marriage was a failure from its very beginning. This I never knew. ''
