Very thoughtful poem, Years are passing by and we have nothing to record absolutely. What closing balances should I carry? What opening balances should I show?

If 2016 was bad in many respects and if it is handing over to 2017 its baton, how can we hope that 2017 will be a better one? A bad person cannot hand over a good baton to his successor. The successor has to throw away that baton to the dust bin. See, which year wasn't bad? All our years were an admixture of good and bad. Goodness is always there but we have trained our mind to be pessimistic. We can certainly highlight the good activities that are going around us but who is actually doing it? I think that you are in the financial sector and so, have used such terms as balance sheet etc.

Giving hopes at he start and giving excuses at the end has been the usual experience people mostly get, immaterial of geographic location. Politicians play the game and we watch. Thanks for the thought provoking poem. Congrats for being the member's PoD.

Congrats on Poem of the Day. As you tally up your balance sheet (nice poetic touch) , look for both sides...hopefully they exist and will in 2017. Nice to end with hope.

Thank u so much, Ms. Pamela, Trial balance will always tally even with suspense account, yet I hope this year all deficit gets wiped off and positive balances emerge.

History is the greatest predictor of the future and the history of mankind is rather bleak. I doubt 2017 will be a bit better than 2016. That aside, congratulations on poem of the day.

A realistic poem. It's true that things don't change miraculously as we enter a new year. In fact with every passing year problems are rising worldwide. But still human heart must have hope. That's the only way to go forward. The formal greetings n pleasantries exchanged at new year give us some happy moments. Well penned. Congrats. A10.

Excellent write on the ups and downs delivered by the year that has just gone past and also on the fresh hopes for the year 2017. Thanks and Congrats, Nohd. Asim ji. I quote: Countries suffered, people suffered Calamities played its part as well 2016 is passing its baton in 2017 In a hope that 2017 will make a great balance sheet.
