An Absent Hum Poem by Gregory Bell

An Absent Hum

Falling leaf
spins perfect
in the autumn warm
Wrest my mind
spinning leaf
from muddle
Wrench my limbs
from struggle
on the day's assembly line
Like Ariadne's thread
bring me back
to sunlight dance
on turning time
to mockingbird's glory
his jazzed audacity
to flies that hover
in this late November
through firs that huddle
in conspiratorial gloom
against an absent hum
the gleaming honeybee
her vanishing
