Lovely poem. I love the shift from the time worn lovers to our own story, all in Amsterdam.
The Jewish Bride J and the bridegroom D of D were in Sofia :) and carried out the sacred ceremony in the synagogue. The year was 5770 of the Hebrew calendar ushers :)
This poem has a painterly quality that reflects the subject perfectly. The details are mostly visual until the end when the poet returns to the present, the sounds of the street merge with the sights. The ending has my favorite lines: 'step into the street where Amsterdam glitters with bicycles and rings with bells. '
The vibrant images of nature and its role in this wonderful wedding, in the autumn of this couple's years, are stunning. The colours and emotions are so vivid and tangible, this poem has a filmic quality. A real privilege to read. S :)
Like the beginning of the poem: “Amsterdam wears its autumn sunshine.” A veil over lace seems like a material over the same kind of material. I can see Amsterdam glittering with bicycles and ringing with bells. Nice poem.
