America's Promise Poem by DONALD SCHUSTER

America's Promise

Rating: 5.0

Let us turn from the shade that has begun to engulf us
Sending our promise of freedom and compassion
Into the corners of stubborn Intolerance.
The promise of freedom is our dearest friend
It holds our hands as we hold it in our hands

Many see peril and drought
as our Nation fumbles in its'
march to perfection,
We should grasp hope
As our forefather's hoped

For many the test of our nation is buried
Deep within the inside our shared memory,
But let us reach the truth
Remembering everyone is our brother
And freedom is not held in some ancient text or vault

Liberty and equality
Lives in our homes, our work, our play, our children,
In our streets,
Beckoning anyone who wants to walk
With Liberty

We shouldn't have to test our memory
with myth and mirage
Truth should guide our North Star
A truth so bright it hides the shade - Forever.

A poem well worth my time! I entirely agree with the point you make! Truth should be the guiding light in all things, internal to national. Thank you for sharing!
