America has traded in his Mercedes
For a beat up, General Motors car.
It has a fender and door of different colors.
It leaks water, burns oil and won’t go far.

This is a wonderfully descriptive piece that eloquently hammers home recession. I feel the things that you say because they are happening in 'Blighty' too. It seems that too many years of excess and over indulgence, and not a little greed, finally broke the bank. I feel so strongly that it was an accident waiting to happen. I also like your characterisation/portrayal of America as a person. Uncle Sam may be tightening his belt, but Uncle Bill Blighty has lost his trousers. Great piece Steve
you have truly captured the economic turmoil thru your poem, I invite you to read my satire called ' Its America you fool'. nikunj
Again, writing with compassion. It's a trait not found often in poetic form. A sign of the times poem speaking volumes. The once obvious hierarchy of people seems a bit more balanced these days, the downturn of the economy has touched many homes. It's refreshing to see a poet that wears his heart on his sleeve (I do the same) but not in such great form. Enjoyed this one as well. Keep writing please.
The world is held under economical hold hope it gets better sooner then later.
America is great frnd...if you come to my country u ll get sick..us is a heavan comparing tom my country..
A very sad, thought provoking poetic commentary on the current state of our nation. Very well written and expressed. Thank you for sharing :)
The new 'America' is believing what it's told Even when the message is quite bold. 'We can make a difference, yes we can All that's needed is the new plan.' A plan that changes lead to gold (At least that's what we are told.) Underneath, there's a sea-change That only Government can arrange. Taking care of all your ills, It's as simple as prescribing certain pills. Pills that take away all your desires As you sink deeper into the binding mires. Mires of tape so green and red That lead all to a place of dread, Where freedom is just another word Supplanted by, it's for the 'brotherhood.' As Capitalism Is replaced by communism. s
Nice write we have the same desperate sights in the UK and it will get a lot worse before it gets better 10++
Genius. Well penned! 'it’s sink or swim in this White-collared Blue-balled businessman’s world, and my inner tube has a hole in it, and the only thing I can get to inflate is the economy. Someone should send the government a subscription to Cosmo, because quite frankly Church and State are having an affair, and it says, right here on page seven, that friends with benefits simply do not work.'
