Amen The Old Hymns Poem by Gary James Smith

Amen The Old Hymns

AMEN THE OLD HYMNS

Amen the old hymns of the faith
Are still as fresh to me
As, when I first heard them sung years ago
When the love of God was drawing me
And the Spirit brought it home to my heart
In such a glorious fashion
I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb
Yes you can call me just old fashioned

Just old fashioned Hallelujah I came
I came with my full baggage of sin
And found... praise God the removal thereof
When I first placed my trust in Him
I came to the fountain of blessing
And drank there a full supply
Now I'm singing most heartily
And shall still in the sweet by and by

We can stay singing all night long
Would be such a delight for me
As visions of rapture fill my mind
Since my introduction to Calvary
So sing them over again to me
Such a refreshment to my soul
Singing about the blood of the Lamb
That can make a sinner whole....

Hallelujah I love those old hymns
They still are a blessing to me
I treasure them as my acquaintances
We both have a history
That day at the Cross when I first saw the light
And darkness just had to flee
O... praise God for the glory of it
The glory of Calvary...

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!
